December 21 denotes the end of the Maya calendar. Is it the end of the world? The height of the Maya civilization ended long ago.

If indeed December 21, 2012 is the end, what will happen? Perhaps visitors from an alien planet have been hiding on the dark side of the moon for many years awaiting this time. I suspect that soon after we ended our moon exploration expeditions, these aliens came and have hidden in moon shadows ever since. They don't like the chaos on our planet and are troubled that terror expeditions from this peaceless planet might spread throughout the universe. That's why they decided to shoot the exanoplane into the earth's atmosphere to careen the planet out of orbit and send it on a forever journey into deep space.
Will Earth escape this traumatic fate?
Perhaps something will change for the aliens.
Perhaps the exanoplane will fail in its mission.
The Maya were wise in their observations of space. Was there a reason the calendar ended December 21, 2012?
Will there be December 22, 2012?

I thin we'll see Saturday! After all, the Mayan couldn't even predict their own demise.
It will be a new beginning, that's all. The world is not ending, some are saying that it is just transforming into an Aquarian Age.I never figure out when exactly that age starts...
Somebody has to be around to record the event, right?? Thanks for playing. Monti!
Amusing spin on this foretold tragedy. LOL.
I certainly hope we wake up tomorrow. I worked too hard on planning and decorating for Christmas.
This is exactly why we should have continued the full space program! The aliens would never have gotten away with this if we'd been monitoring the moon's shadows.
Thanks for participating!

It's certainly an interesting thought... I think it's a little egocentric of us to think we're the most advanced lifeform in the whole universe!
The world will end eventually, but I won't be around to see it. (Unless the zombie apocalypse happens while I'm here.)
Precious Monsters
I've always been curious about the moon's dark side...
The possibilities are endless, but considering my luck, I bet the world will end when I finally land that book deal. At least I can go with all my life goals completed, right? :)
I think.. Saturday is upon us all... fresh start and what we will make to make it right.
Did we make it?
My link is dead, I ask again did we make it?
[Visit my post for that to make sense]
Great end of the world post!!

Oh No, Let's Go... Crazy
I really hope there is a 12/22- I have theater tickets! Maybe the Mayans just ran out of space on their clay.

Looks like you may be right, Alex! Enjoy Sat.
Thanks for visiting, Evalina. Perhaps that's it--more Age of Aquarius. Hopefully, there will be a kinder, gentler people!
Thanks, Chuck, for co-hosting this event and for creating your own fortress!!!
I would love to see your decorations for Christmas, Michael. I bet they are out of this world!!!
Thanks for co-hosting this, Shannon. The dark side of the moon has forever fascinated me. What could be hidden there that our explorers did not see?
Thanks for commenting, Angelina. I hope we are not the most advanced. In fact, I fear we are the least. Surely there must be lifeforms somewhere that need no wars, that need no weapons...
Thanks for visiting, Jolie. Something will happen one day--worlds will collide, some object from space will knock it out of orbit, a climate change will destroy all life. Some scenarios will take longer than others...
Maybe another space exploration will check out the dark side more thoroughly. Thanks for visiting, Milo!
David, that's quite a thought. The bright side is you wouldn't need to worry about marketing and promotion!
Thanks for visiting, Jeremy. Australia is well into Dec. 22, so that's a good thing!
Thanks for your visit, Tracy. Good thought. Maybe they ran out of space and out of clay as well!
I'm debating whether I want there to be a December 22 since I haven't even started Christmas shopping yet.
I don't think we've spun out of orbit just yet.
Short and sweet--cool post :) Like any other calendar that ends, all it means is that a new cycle of time begins. Like any January 1st, we may have high hopes for the new cycle, but it really is up to us.
It's getting late now--day's almost over--and nothing's happened yet. This end of the world was a dud just like all the previous ones. That's a good thing.

Tossing It Out
Well, reading this from the safety of Dec 22nd I think we can all heave a sigh of relief!
(unless, of course, those pesky aliens just decided to light the blue touch-paper on the 21st and have now retreated to deep space to watch the fireworks from afar.....! :-o )
Thank you, Nancy, Diane, Guilie, Lee, and Sue for your insightful comments.
We made it to December 22!!!
Merry Christmas, All!
And to think, Pink Floyd has been trying to warn us of their existence since 1973...
At least, as we hurtle off on our unexpected journey through space, we can take consolation in the fact that the aliens hiding on the moon are also being pulled along with us on our new trajectory. May they freeze in our sunless existence just as quickly as us.
How true, Nate! They should suffer our fate as well unless they whiz away before it happens. Thanks for commenting!
