A to Z Challenge
"Osprey Landing" - acrylic painting ©Mary Montague Sikes |
For as long as I can remember, up until our new modern bridges opened on both sides of our peninsula town, we had draw bridges with a bridge tender house situated on each bridge. Every year a family of osprey nested atop the Mattaponi River Bridge. Today, the new bridge that spans the river has no metal framework for nesting, so I wonder where the ospreys are raising their young. Perhaps on another bridge farther up the river...
Today's painting is 11" x 14" acrylic on stretched canvas. Where have the birds of prey gone?

I hope they found another place for their nest! Kind of a shame they lost their bridge home.
Very majestic!
I'm sorry they lost their nesting site, but better that than have cars start falling into the river as the bridge fell apart! They're probably nesting along the river now. There used to be a big next on the creek, across from your lots.
Thanks, Julie. It's a big river and lots of possibilities for them, so that's good.
Yes, Amy. By now, that poor old rusting bridge would have collapsed! Thanks for visiting.
Another beautiful painting. I agree with Marian's comment on yesterday's post. I think you have the makings of a neat book.
I am so impressed at your wonderful daily paintings. I hope the osprey find a good home.
Very nice, Mary! And hope those ospreys found a new place to nest.
Maryann, thank you. I like the idea of a book!
Thank you, Bob. I haven't gone looking for them. We used to watch the nest as we drove under it on the old bridge!
Thanks, Alex. I'm sure those bird are safe somewhere.
This is a great challenge that I've never heard of. I love the photos!! :)
Great job!
Pretty awesome use of color!
You painted these, so awesome!
Love you A to Z challenge posts!
Great painting! For some reason I wasn't aware of any bird called an Osprey till today.
Awesome painting, Monti. I take it those are some fairly large birds?
Hope they found a new home.
