Years ago, I received my first Christmas gift from the young man who was my high school boyfriend. When I was only 13, I developed a mad crush on this boy who was the announcer for all the school football games. You can imagine how thrilled I was to start dating him when I was 16.
On Christmas Eve that year, he dropped by our house and placed two beautiful gift packages under our tree. I could hardly wait to see what was inside. No other gift mattered that year.
But on Christmas morning I hesitated to open my presents.Often anticipation is more important than the event itself. Eventually, I removed the papers with great care, so I could fold and keep them safe for years to come. My gifts were a set of Tigress cologne and bath powder. The bottle and the box both had a velvety animal skin decor.
To this day, I love anything with the look of tiger or leopard skin. I have scarves, a vest, and jackets in my wardrobe all with the look of animal skin.
And I have the boy as well, now grown for many years. On special occasions, I never know what new gift he may bestow, but none will be more unforgettable than that first gift.

Mary,
At thirteen, no less! That is so sweet, and your're right, so unforgettable. Give your husband a kiss.

wow..really sweet sweet sweet,. nice post, take care,
You married your high school sweetheart?! How wonderful. That is so sweet that your first gift was so impactful.
Thanks so much for sharing your story and for joining the Blog Hop! xo
When you kept the crush for 3 years I was hoping this was going in a good direction. Sounds like it developed into a wonderful life. That's awesome.

I remember that cologne! It was from Avon, right? And now you got the guy and a fascination with animal print to carry with you. Great story -- thanks for sharing it!
yeah any crush longer than 3 months needs to be looked into. Sweet story though, sounds like he loves to pamper you.
That's such a sweet story. :)
Thanks so much, Bobbye. I did!
Fire, thanks!
Yes, Liz. The Blog Hop is fun. Thanks for the opportunity.
Thanks for your visit, Mason. Enjoyed being a blog guest with you and also finding Marilyn there yesterday!
Thanks, Tina. I don't know about Avon.
Joanna, nice to have you visit. Yes, I am spoiled.
Good to see you, Golden Eagle!
I was wrong about Avon -- Tigress was made by Faberge. But a friend of mine wore it and I always loved it -- kinda wild and untamed feeling, exactly how every teenage girl wants to be. I bet if I smelled it today, I'd feel like thirteen again.
Thanks, Tina, you're right. It was Faberge! I loved the fragrance, too. Don't know if it's still around.
Awh that is so sweet! I love it! :O)
Hi,
Oooh, lovely gift, and yes animal prints (big cats) kind of exude grrrr factor! fab story. ;)
best
F
And I bet if he gave you something you didn't want, you'd still be happy because he was the one who gave it to you!

I love stories like this, when someone finds their sweetheart at such a young age and gets to spend their life with them. :)
Donna Cummings
Thanks, all of you, for your nice comments. Yes, Morgan, of course I would!
We've had a lot of fun, Donna!
What a sweet story. Maybe he'll read this and give you something tiger-y.
Ah, your hubby is quite a romantic. Does he have any relatives in Australia?
My Darcy Mutates
Thanks, Helen! Maybe.
No relatives in Australia that I know about, Enid! Thanks for commenting.
You're right about anticipation sometimes being the best part. In this case it sounds like the gift lived up to expectation!
Good news! Faberge still makes Tigress cologne. Here's a link. :)
My husband is a Wind Song man. :)
Marian Allen
Eleri, the gift did meet expectations!
Thank you, Marian. Maybe I'll get some for Christmas!!!
Marian, I went to the site. Really interesting! Since I don't keep up with these things, I didn't know Tigress was discontinued. Interesting you can sell old cologne at these prices. I learn something new every day!
Thanks for finding this link!!!
great story. Don't hear too much of the lifetime courtship anymore.
What a great story. I love any hint of high school romance. So glad you got the boy!
Mythic and Shirley, thanks for your comments. No, you don't hear much of lifetime romances which is a little sad, I think.
Stashed away in my jewelry box is the rhinestone bracelet with my first name engraved on the little nameplate. I received that gift from my first boyfriend when we were in 8th grade. I only saw him once after I went to a different high school than he did, but I would never throw that bracelet away.
Sweet, Patricia. Sorry you didn't see him but once after you moved.
I admire your patience. I might have had to open those gifts right away! Great story. Thanks for sharing it!
That's such a sweet post! I think you definitely won the husband lottery! (And I think your children won the daddy lottery! And the mama one, too! :) )
Well, lucky for you animal prints are way in right now! Such a cute first gift. How nice that you kept the boy too. ;)
