"M" Is For Maui

"Hawaii" - MM Sikes
You must know by now how much the Passenger to Paradise adores the Hawaiian islands, so "M" has to stand for Maui. And the most memorable adventure for me on that spectacular island was the journey on the Road to Hana.

We took the long scenic drive from Kapalua to Hana without suspecting until we were well along the way how dangerous this little trail actually was. When we began to see white crosses, it was already too late to turn back. I'm not sure that was even possible because the road was so narrow we wondered how any car traveling from the other direction would be able to pass us.

From seascapes to waterfalls to volcanic ash, Maui has it all. We enjoyed the visit to Hana but decided to return a different way and visit the volcano.

Lahaina, full of upscale art galleries, was a special treat for me. And for golf fans, there are 14 courses from which to choose.

What's your favorite Hawaiian island? Do you want to go back? The Passenger to Paradise longs to return and see more of the islands.

We honeymooned in Maui. We've been there twice as we have a few friends to visit, intrude, and invade. Hey, Maui is expensive.

Every place we've visited in Hawaii has been expensive. Wonder what the awful gas prices have done?!

Hi Monti - one day .. I shall have to visit the Hawaiin islands .. they've always looked beautiful.

Your scenic drives sounds amazing - but I too would be a little worried about the white crosses - not such a fun thing to notice.

It's always sound just wonderful .. and you describe it so ..

Great tour .. thank you! Cheers Hilary

Kauai is my favorite. I've only been to Hawaii twice. Once with my mom and sis when mom was in her 80s. We went to Oahu and stayed in the Royal Hawiian, on Kauai we took a helicopter tour. Of course each place we toured many beautiful and interesting spots. The second time, I taught at the Maui Writers Retreat, but didn't get to do many tourist things.

Marilyn, that's quite a long way to go and not see touristy things! I envy you being so much closer in CA.

Alex, you should head there in celebration when your next book comes out!

This is beautiful! It took me back to the year, 1975-1976 (the centennial year) that my first husband and I and our 4 children lived on Oahu. It was a troubling year in my marriage, but I loved the island. And on our way back to the mainland at year's end, we stayed for two days on Maui. It was breathtaking. The garden island. I wanted to stay there forever.

Thanks for taking me back! And for commenting on my blog.
