Looking for Good Crab Cakes

For several years, I've been checking out crab cakes in many of the restaurants we've visited on travels throughout the country. Seldom do I find one that meets my expectations. That's why I was pleased to discover that Dudley's Farmhouse Grille has an excellent crab cake on its lunch menu. Served atop a sumptuous house salad, the crab cake was all meat without any of the fillers that restaurants often add.

The quaint old farmhouse, built in 1905, is in Toano, Virginia, a village only a few miles from our little town. It's located on Rt. 60, en route to Williamsburg.

My favorite crab cake was served at Backfin in Williamsburg, but, sadly, that restaurant closed last year and the crab cake recipe did not follow to the new eatery that replaced it.

Do any of you have a favorite restaurant for crab cakes? I'd like to know about them if you do. In the meantime, I'll keep searching. I'm glad to know about Dudley's...

Thanks, Alex. It's quite visible right across from the middle school.

Oh, yum. I am hungry for crab cakes now. I like them made with lots of lump crab, a little bit of bread crumbs, and touch of seasoning. We have good crab cakes over here in Washington State.

Yes, I am salivating.

Thanks, Emily, and thanks for following!

I've been wondering if the west coast crabs are as good as east coast. I haven't really tried them there.

That's very tempting. I don't think I've tried crab cakes before. We've a lot of fish cakes here in Oz, in Thai restaurants. But crab cakes are quite rare...Or at least I don't come across it often.

Love crabcakes! When I lived in Maryland, there was a great place in Newburg,on rt 301 just before taking the bridge into Virginia. I can't remember the name, but now I'm land locked and the only good crabcakes are the ones I make or import. :-)

Interesting, Enid. If you see Maryland style on the menu, those are the ones to try! Thanks for commenting.

We always go by way of 301 when we travel north to Delaware or Pennsylvania. Next time, I'll look for that restaurant. There used to be a restaurant in an old house on the other side of that bridge in Port Royal. They had good crab cakes. They closed a couple of years ago. Don't know if they've reopened.
