H is for Horse - Painting a Day

A to Z Challenge

The Painting A to Z continues and is challenging for certain. Today, "H" is for Horse. I've always wanted to paint a horse of many colors. Today I discovered, that is easier said than done.
"Wild and Free" - acrylic painting ©Mary Montague Sikes

Last summer, when we were vacationing in Avon, Colorado, I fell in love with the horse sculpture that greets visitors to the town. A photograph I took of it inspired this painting, "Wild and Free" which is abstract and a just for fun image. The painting is 14" x 11" acrylic on stretched canvas.

I have always admired horses but never learned to ride one. My only previous experience with creating horse image art was using pastels.

Beautiful! I published a book entitled A IS FOR ART which featured a painting for each letter of the alphabet. It was a special fundraising project for the local art center. Let me know when you're finished! ;)

What beautiful colors! I love this one.

I've never learned to ride a horse either. That's something I hope to change someday. They are such gorgeous and majestic animals.

Inger, thank you so much for visiting and keeping up!

Amy, thank you. I'm so happy you like them!

Julie, thank you so much. My uncle owned a stable. Before I ever got a chance to ride, a pony ran away with my cousin and me in the pony cart. Then, I saw my uncle get thrown from his favorite horse. It was all too traumatic!

Beautiful, Mary!
Now who was saying they didn't think they could do animal paintings...?

Thank you, Alex. I still prefer the mixed media non-objective.

Beautiful! I'm impressed with people who can create things like this since I have no artistic talent whatsoever :)

Love it. I'm a horse gal. Never owned one but loved to ride as a girl.
